The Counseling Center (CC) is a member of the Johns Hopkins University Student Health & Well-Being (SHWB) practice group which supports wellness, primary care and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools within the university. In addition to the SHWB wellness office, our integrated service delivery model provides in-person primary and mental health care options at our clinics as well as remote support though phone and online resources.

The Counseling Center (CC) provides services to students in full-time graduate and undergraduate academic programs in the Schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering, as well as the Peabody Institute of Music. Our mission is to facilitate the personal growth and development of students. Our services are designed to enhance the personal and interpersonal development of students and to maximize their potential to benefit from the academic environment and experience. We further strive to foster a healthy, caring university community that is beneficial to the intellectual, emotional and physical development of students.

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Social Worker, who, as with all Counseling Center staff, will operate as a generalist, providing a full range of services to the JHU student body, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, supervision, and training. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have experience and expertise providing services for marginalized populations such as LGBTQ+ students and students of color. The person in this position may be asked provide some services at other JHU locations in addition to the CC.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical services, including initial consultations, individual counseling, group counseling, couples counseling and crisis intervention to a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provides outreach, and consultation services to the university community, with specific emphasis on marginalized populations.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups to provide advocacy and programming for marginalized populations.
  • Provides after-hours on-call coverage (as backup to ProtoCall) in rotation with the rest of the clinical staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Social Work required. Must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker – Clinical (LCSW-C) in Maryland or eligible to obtain LCSW-C licensure within 1 year of hire. Two years of experience providing clinical services is required. Provision of individual and group counseling to a diverse population. Development and implementation of psycho-educational programming. Provision of individual and group counseling to a college student population.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of college student presenting concerns in individual and group counseling.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise providing services for marginalized populations such as LGBTQ+ and students of color.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups.
  • Ability to effectively engage audiences during presentations.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
