Job Description

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology, Blacksburg, VA, invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, calendar-year, tenure-track faculty position in Pharmacology/Toxicology at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. We seek an enthusiastic individual to join our team supporting the College's teaching, research, and clinical service goals. We value diversity – in backgrounds and experiences. A commitment to the values of belonging, equity, and inclusion is critical for this role. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere and a desire to participate in a dynamic community.

The successful candidate’s appointment will be at least 60% research and expected to lead an innovative, externally-funded independent research program and mentor undergraduate and graduate students to support the College’s scholarship and discovery mission. Successful candidates will have a record of academic accomplishments, collaborative interdisciplinary research, and a willingness to expand disciplinary boundaries to address complex technical and societal challenges. Virginia Tech’s commitment to research excellence and interdisciplinary programs creates opportunities for collaboration with faculty across the translational and applied sciences. VMCVM has a fully equipped Pharmacology/Toxicology laboratory for analytical research, including HPLC-UV and -FLD, UPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS/MS. Additional equipment for drug quantification is available on the main campus. The laboratory has full-time staffing. Opportunities for translational research exist in collaboration with faculty in the College's Departments of Large and Small Animal Clinical Sciences, Population Health, Virginia Tech's Center for Drug Discovery, the Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Fralin Institute, and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

The VMCVM is dedicated to producing veterinary graduates with day-one knowledge, skills, and abilities capable of impacting the profession immediately. Our innovative curriculum takes an integrative approach to education. It empowers graduates to be lifelong learners while fostering an inclusive environment that promotes learning and growth for all community members. The candidate will be expected to contribute to didactic and laboratory instruction of core, track, and elective DVM courses. The successful candidate will join the current faculty supporting ACVCP residency, toxicology/pharmacology-related PhD/MS graduate-level training, and mentoring DVM students.

Depending on the candidate's expertise, service roles may include clinical consultation responsibilities related to toxicants, drug-resistant infections, drug-drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, and drug overdoses. The successful candidate will join a team environment, working closely with colleagues in the large and small animal clinical services, consulting with outside clients, and referring veterinarians. Service responsibilities will also consist of participation in College and University level committees.
