Job Summary

The incumbent will perform functions under the supervision of the Director of Cargill Thrive Program. The incumbent will work independently to provide a wide range of operational and programmatic support of the Thrive program. Support for the Thrive Program will include coordinating the day-to-day activities of the scholar’s program, assisting with the implementation of the overall strategy for the Thrive Program and serving as a critical link between faculty, staff, and a variety of university constituencies.

  • Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations related to educational programs, governmental compliance, and other regulatory standards
  • Knowledge of student recruitment and retention of best practices
  • Knowledge of program planning, public relations and marketing principles and practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of corporate culture and development of business acumen
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently on complex projects
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups of individuals
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure, being flexible and able to exercise independent judgement to produce quality work within tight time constraints
Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for administration of the scholarship programs and related office functions to include maintenance of scholarship applicant files and award information, interaction with academic departments in the applicant selection process, marketing program, collection of scholarship application information, responding to scholarship inquiries, and verification of initial and continued eligibility.
  • Provides leadership and facilitates program successes in student development, scholarship administration, and outreach as outlined in the Alcorn – Cargill Partnership; Sowing Seeds of Success/Cargill Thrive Program.
  • Provides support of the Alcorn State Cargill Partnership: Sowing Seeds of Success offered under the Cargill Thrive Program
  • Ensures timely execution of all project initiatives
  • Supports goals and outcomes for each program initiative as outline in the proposal, establishing, and setting milestones to track success of scholarship recipients, program participants, and community projects
  • Supports development of student projections, enrollment, and retention rates
  • Builds relationships with prospective students by initiating communications with prospective students and their parents through school visits, active, on-campus department targeted recruiting
  • Builds relationship with community partners through effective communication strategies tailored for various constituent groups
  • Assists with the interview process for prospective scholars
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, agriculture, or business
  • Two years’ experience working in a corporate setting
  • One year experience working with student program development and program planning
