Position Purpose
The Executive Director is responsible for individually securing and stewarding restricted and unrestricted gifts from assigned individuals capable of making $500,000+ gifts in support of Dartmouth College’s institutional priorities with key alumni and parents in the region, while leading the regional team to secure and steward gifts of $100,000+.averaging ~$25M/year in restricted gifts and ~$10M/year in Annual Fund gifts Develops and executes on a regional philanthropy strategy in the region, working across multiple departments in development to coordinate a comprehensive plan for annual, leadership, and principal gifts. Works in coordination with Associate Vice President for Development ( AVP ) to implement sophisticated, integrated, efficient and impactful presence across all Dartmouth constituents in the Western region. Due to the geographic location of this large region and its team, this position has a high degree of autonomy and delegated authority to act on the College’s behalf.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Bachelor’s degree required
* 10 years of fundraising and fundraising management experience with a successful track record as a leader, manager, and strategist in a complex organizational environment, preferably in higher education
* Demonstrated experience soliciting and closing seven-figure gifts
* Demonstrated experience working with senior administrators, faculty, trustees, and top volunteers and donors
* Demonstrated experience working across divisions within large, complex institutions
* Demonstrated experience managing a team of highly accomplished fundraisers
* Demonstrated experience developing strategic plans and managing projects
* Excellent relationship building skills and an ability to listen carefully as well as influence and persuade others
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities
* Technical computer literacy essential; familiarity with CRM’s related to advancement
* Understanding and comfort with the intricacies of significant business travel
* Ability to work and make decisions with a high degree of autonomy
* Strong organizational skills combined with individual initiative; energy, enthusiasm, and ability to work both independently and productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
* Demonstrated negotiation skills and an understanding of prospect-centered fund raising combined with strategic planning experience
* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion
* Resolve for success and an entrepreneurial spirit

* Ability to analyze information and prioritize decisions

Responsible for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual prospects capable of making current-use and capital commitments of $500,000+ or more over a five- year period, manages a prospect portfolio of approximately 30-50 individual prospects. Works both independently and in concert with senior officers, Trustees, colleagues, and volunteers to implement strategies including direct solicitation of gifts. Promotes maximum involvement with Dartmouth as primary means of enhancing the likelihood of increased financial support; devises individualized involvement and team engagement strategies for all prospects using a “top-down” approach to ensure that highest rated prospects receive the most attention.

Description
Leads the work of a fundraising team to attract significant gifts to Dartmouth for its funding priorities, through aligning donor interest with institutional priorities, collaborating with colleagues, and demonstrating transparency and collegiality. Supports an ambitious strategic and operational fundraising plan to meet short and long terms goals of the institution. Working with the Associate Vice President for Development, develops an annual and long-range plan for the region that includes a commitment to growth in the planning giving program. Establishes performance goals for the team and region and is accountable for these goals, monitors progress and devises strategies to ensure success in meeting goals. Partners with fellow fundraising leaders in principal gifts, gift planning and professional schools to ensure collaboration between teams and meeting of mutual objectives. Develops knowledge base of tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving and articulates this knowledge clearly and effectively in discussions with prospective donors, their counsel, colleagues, and volunteers. Serves as resource to staff on matters of prospect strategy; offers new approaches and techniques; and seeks to provide creative solutions to complex solicitations. Relies on past experience in the field and keeps current with evolving trends in philanthropy.

Articulates and implements strategies for communicating with donors; drafts and customizes institutional correspondence, proposals, and other written materials for all assigned prospects. Oversees the preparation of necessary materials, including funding proposals, briefings for senior officers and Trustees and scheduled stewardship reports, for all assigned prospects utilizing campus resources. Recommends new activities and events to enhance engagement and giving and ensure best management of leadership and principal gift prospects.
