Position Summary:

Office of Campus Police Services' mission is to provide a safe and secure campus for our community. The Department consists of an Operations and Administrative Office. The Operations Section includes sworn police officers, security officers, and public safety telecommunicators. Services provided by the Operations Section include calls for police services, taking reports of crimes and complaints, student and staff escorts, in addition to many other services. The Administrative Section provides administrative support to the department, which includes record keeping services, providing discovery for attorneys, and processes report requests for involved parties. This position is assigned to the Office of Access Control Services in the Campus Police Services department.

Under the direction of the Crew Supervisor for Office of Access Control Services, the Door Assembly Technician is responsible for maintaining high quality access control services throughout all campus facilities, ensuring the security and integrity of the College's door openings. Does related work as assigned.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Installs, repairs and maintains all swing-type doors, frames and door hardware. Ensures all works are complete according to any related fire and/or life safety codes and standards. Researches and recommends door opening hardware and equipment to support the advancement of security and fire safety solutions for services provided by the Office. Has an extensive, working knowledge of doors and related hardware components, as well as he troubleshooting skills necessary to affect timely repairs.
  • Installs, replaces and adjusts manual door closers. Troubleshoots and maintains automatic power door operators.
  • Prepares and/or works from schematics, sketches, plans and specifications with little or no assistance from the supervisor. Maintains familiarity with the nomenclature of accepted trade organization and standard-making bodies. Understands manufacturer's directions for the installation of doors, frames and hardware. Has extensive knowledge of allowable repairs to fire door assemblies. Inspects and maintains an inventory of all fire door assemblies.
  • Assists locksmiths in the installation, repair and/or maintenance of mechanical locking systems. Assists electronic security technicians with the installation, repair and/or maintenance of electronic security devices.
  • Receives work orders from supervisor for general repairs, emergency work and preventive maintenance which outline the work to be done, in what time frame and methods to be used, in order to accomplish the job according to specific instruction. Receives minimal call backs from clients. Maintains accurate records of equipment used, work done and time spent.
  • Works with vendors and college employees to generate specifications for door and security hardware for new construction and renovation projects. Coordinates work with vendors and/or other campus departments to complete projects. Implements preventative maintenance programs to assure the proper operation of all door assemblies and hardware.
  • Requisitions, stores, safeguards and properly uses equipment and supplies. Maintains familiarity with the use and nomenclature of doors, frames, hardware and access control equipment and materials, along with the instruments, tools and specialty equipment used in maintaining door openings.
  • Ensures that daily operating statistics are completed and maintained. Submits reports detailing completed work pursuant to Supervisor's directives.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must have knowledge of the procedures, methods, equipment and supplies used in Access Control Services, and the ability to utilize said procedures, methods, equipment and supplies appropriately and securely. Must have a thorough knowledge of building and life safety codes and standards.
  • Must possess excellent organization, analytical, verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. Must be able to write door assembly and hardware specifications.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in good standing issued from the state of residence is required.
  • Must have the ability to create and maintain accurate records of work performed using a computer and college supported software programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with electronic locking system software preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent work experience involving access control in a large institutional setting (e.g., high education, school district, hospital) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of comprehensive knowledge and experience in the repair alteration and installation of locks, door checks, and keys of various types in an institutional setting (e.g., higher education, school district, hospital).
  • Proficient in the use of computers and computer systems & programs used by the college needed to perform the duties associated with the position.
