Job Summary:
The instructor is responsible to the Division Dean for carrying out his/her assigned instructional tasks. The instructor shall perform such other duties as assigned by the Division Dean when approved by the Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development. The engineering instructor develops, plans, and presents organized lectures, laboratory activities, and out of class assignments in accordance with approved course outlines.
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in an Engineering discipline, or BS degree in an Engineering discipline with 27 graduate quarter hours (18 semester hours) in Engineering or closely related field. The ability to communicate effectively as a teacher and to operate as an effective member of a team. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years’ experience in engineering and practical laboratory work with a demonstrated knowledge of engineering and related technical aspects is desirable. Successful teaching at the post-secondary level is also desirable.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to set up and operate equipment. Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment. Seventy percent or more of the job duties require standing.
Work may be performed in classrooms and college science labs. Considerable exposure to safety or health hazards. May be required to work after hours or for special weekend events.
Essential Duties:
Applicants must possess a combination of academic preparation and professional experience that demonstrates the ability to:
Share in the engineering transfer instructional load of classes.
Teach and assist in the development of engineering transfer courses.
Develop course schedules and syllabi.
Plan, develop, and deliver classroom lectures and activities as well as write tests and develop other methods to evaluate student progress and competence.
Act as a team member of the Engineering Department.
Communicate the objectives of each course taught, grade according to those objectives, and report student progress toward those goals.
Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.
Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable out-of-class contact with students.
Establish and maintain a class roll, and teach in conformance with approved course outlines.
Participate in Student Appraisal of Classroom Learning.
