Job Summary
The senior accountant is responsible for performing complex accounting work to include maintaining knowledge of institutional, state and federal policies and procedures. This position also ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in executing, analyzing, verifying and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature.

Job Responsibilities
- Records and collects data regarding financial activity to judge the soundness of university financial policies and financial stability
- Uses information collected to advise management on the allocation of resources, means to maximize earnings and strategies for efficient implementation of regulations
- Maintains working knowledge of financial regulations, accounting best practices and other applicable laws and regulations
- Provides training and oversight on policies and procedures for accounting staff
- Assists in providing regular evaluation and feedback for staff performance
- Serves as a project leader on special projects, often working with other departments
- Manages records for past and recent projects, programs and operations
- Analyzes and reports costs, expenditures, income and productivity
- Projects future income potential and makes financial recommendations
- Researches accounting issues and assists in implementing new accounting standards
- Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
- Minimum of 4 years’ related professional experience
- Master’s degree preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Excellent analytical skills to create and assess financial aid packages and calculations
- Ability to coordinate with other departments
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask
- Strong professional integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to use good judgment, think critically and communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office software, including Microsoft Office Suite and financial aid proprietary applications.
- General office setting
- Ability to work effectively at a computer, on the phone and in face-to-face meetings for up to eight hours daily
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
