Job Description
The Orientation Intern is vital to the success of the Orientation Program as they assist in implementing transitional programs for students and families. In return, the intern will be exposed to a dynamic work experience to gain viable skills applicable to the field of higher education. The Intern will gain hands-on experience in orientation program coordination and management, staff supervision and mentoring, and program assessment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the Center for Academic Success and Engagement ( CASE ) in all logistics and other preparations to welcome the incoming class
● Assist in the outreach and communication to students and families Orientation information throughout the summer
● Update the Orientation Team Duty Roster for all Peacock Prep Days and the Orientation Weekend
● Facilitate aspects of Peacock Prep Day, such as the late Check-In process and Financial Aid session.
● Create and monitor Master List for each Peacock Prep Day session
● Assist with the placement testing proctoring, as needed.
● Update social media pages including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
● Assist in the coordination of Orientation events
● Act as administrator on duty for the Orientation Team events and trips, as needed.
● Assist the Office of Residence Life in any tasks related to Orientation or summer residence hall needs.
● Fulfill other duties as assigned
Qualification Standards
● Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
● Detail-oriented and organized
● Ability to work with the campus-wide team to advance the program’s mission and student learning outcomes
● Experience in the use of MS Office, e-mail, internet, Google apps and other relevant computer software preferred
Expectations:
● The position of Orientation Intern is a summer position beginning June 1, 2022 and ending August 31, 2022, reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Success and Engagement ● The Orientation Intern will meet weekly with the Associate Dean of Academic Success and Engagement and the Academic Success and Retention Specialist to review all tasks, assignments, and duties. Additional meetings will be scheduled as needed. ● The Orientation Intern will reside in on-campus housing for the summer. He/She will adhere to the conditions specified in the Residence Hall Contract regarding noise policies and other regulations specified by the Residence Life Staff. The Orientation Intern understands that he/she will not be permitted to house overnight guests. In addition, the Intern will cooperate with the Office of Residence Life in upholding a safe and positive living environment for all residents. ● In all dealings with the University and community representatives the Orientation Intern understands that he/she acts as a representative of the First Year Orientation Program. He/She will uphold standards of professionalism that are expected of a member of the First Year Orientation professional staff. The Orientation Intern will represent the University in an appropriate way. This includes, but is not limited to my interactions with the Orientation Team, faculty, staff, administration, students and families within the Saint Peter’s Community and use of social media (ie: posting thoughtful and respectful images, pictures, sayings, signatures, etc., on instant messenger, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
