ADULT EDUCATOR – AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY CAREER BRIDGE
The Adult Education Department of Truman College seeks a part-time
Adult Educator with a passion for teaching and learning along with
a strong commitment to the mission and ideals of the community
college. In this role, you will provide contextualized instruction
to advanced-level Adult Education students in the area of
· Develops class syllabi
and appropriate class materials and curriculum for class
· Takes attendance and
monitors class enrollment.
· Evaluates student
progress and extra instruction needs; refers student for tutoring
· Administers progress
tests to students and assigns grades based on test results.
· Prepares reports to
senior management regarding test scores, student participation and
· Keeps abreast of state
rules and regulations regarding Adult Education policies.
· Stays abreast of the
pedagogy of teaching and adjusts teaching methods
· Attends regular staff
meetings with Adult Education Managers and Adult Education
Coordinators to receive information regarding program policies and
· Assists with program
· Participates in staff
development programs as required.
· Performs related duties
· B.S., B.A. from a
regionally accredited university/college in a discipline
appropriate to instructional subject, preferably English,
Mathematics, Reading, Elementary or Secondary Education, Social
Science, Science, History, ABE/GED Education, and/or Education
required. M.Ed., M.A., or M.S. from a regionally accredited
university/college in Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching,
Reading, Mathematics, Educational Policy, Literacy Studies, Adult
Education, Secondary Education or Elementary Education
· International degree(s)
evaluated by a certified provider (e.g. E.C.E., W.E.S.,
· Official transcript(s)
reflect sufficient subject-relevant coursework to teach the
· Submit sample lesson
plans, syllabi and/or teaching portfolio that reflect skills in
area(s) of instruction, including computer literacy and adult
· Knowledge of current
adult education classroom assessment techniques.
· Completed satisfactory
teaching demonstration for the hiring committee.
· Has coursework,
certification, or significant experience in literacy instruction
and special education.
· Has passed the GED
practice examination and/or the K-12 certification examination for
the subject area that they will be teaching.
· Has completed or in the
process of completing an Evidence-based Reading Program for Reading
& General Studies AEs (i.e. STAR or Direct Instruction, etc.)
with at least one of the following preferred:
- Verified significant instructional experience with adults or
other discipline related experience
- 15 graduate hours or more in the discipline that they will be
- Current enrollment in a subject appropriate, master’s degree
program at an accredited university/college.
In addition to the Adult Basic Education and Adult Secondary
Education qualifications, Automotive Technology Career Bridge
candidates must also meet the qualifications for the specific
Bridge or Vocational Area:
· Completion of a
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with education, experience, and/or
training that has provided the instructor with demonstrated
appropriate knowledge of automotive technology. Appropriate
training may include vendor, manufacturer, in-service, or other
structured on-the-job training in this occupation.
· Must have verified
significant instructional experience with adults or other
discipline related experience and have received or is willing to
receive training in adult learning theory, student-centered
teaching methods, curriculum implementation, syllabi and lesson
plan development, and assessment.
