Family Medicine Vice Chair of Education

The Department of Family Medicine in the West Virginia University School of Medicine (SOM) seeks a Vice Chair of Education (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to work in Morgantown, WV.

Duties: This academic faculty position will include clinical practice in the area of Family Medicine. In addition to providing excellent patient care this role will lead the educational mission of the Department and reports to the Chair of Family Medicine.

Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed a Family Medicine residency program and be board certified in Family Medicine. Candidate must demonstrate Family Medicine expertise and have at least three years of documented educational, administrative, and GME experience. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

The Vice Chair will provide visionary leadership across the areas of teaching, service, and research. They will work closely with the departmental leaders for UME, GME, and faculty development to ensure success of the department’s educational mission. They will be responsible for interprofessional educational initiatives as they relate to the clinical learning environment in the department and integration of non-physician health professional learners. The Vice Chair will provide support and oversight to the residency Program Director and leadership team to ensure ACGME compliance and ongoing success of the training program as well as initiate new educational programs. The Vice Chair will also provide support and oversight to the UME departmental leaders, including Clerkship Directors, to ensure LCME compliance and overall success of the family medicine medical student curriculum. UME responsibilities will also include ongoing development of a successful career mentoring and family medicine recruitment program for medical students.

In addition to pipeline, UME and GME programs, the Vice Chair will also be expected to substantially contribute to faculty development within the department. This will include professional development through mentoring and advancing resources to enhance teaching and clinical skills as well as research productivity. This will include oversight for departmental conferences and other continuing education events ensuring ACCME compliance where applicable. The Vice Chair will work closely with other Department leadership to ensure a transparent and seamless promotion and tenure process.

Along with the Chair, the Vice Chair will interface with WVU SOM and WVU Medicine leaders to develop strategic initiatives to advance the educational mission of the institution and the State of West Virginia as it relates to Family Medicine.
