Sports Facilities Manager (29997)

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities and Operations will assist in games management, equipment and facility needs for assigned athletic practices, competitions, events, camps, clinics, and athletic facility rentals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance
  • Responsible for maintenance and field preparation of outdoor athletic facilities including dragging infield, grooming artificial turf fields, edging, lining, replacing bullpen and game mound clay and other daily/routine field maintenance duties as needed.
Parking
  • Management of all Convocation Center and Athletic parking lots prior to, during and after home football games.
  • Assist in management of parking lots for all special events at Huskie Stadium and the Convocation Center which Includes staffing, reconciling event parking revenue, establishing and monitoring traffic flow, updating parking maps and policies, and notes any apparent lot hazards to supervisor.
  • Maintains part-time parking staff schedules and monitors performance.


Inspection and Repairs
  • Inspect athletic facilities for maintenance issues and submit work order for maintenance repairs.
  • Monitors status of work orders to ensure all repairs are done in a timely manner: communicate with and coordinate maintenance conducted by Physical Plant and outside vendors.
Event Management
  • Assist with athletic home games management, contests and events.
  • Responsible for planning, set up, event management, and tear down of equipment for outdoor sport competitions as well as set up and tear down for competitions and events held in the Convocation Center as assigned.


Scheduling
  • Assist with coordinating and scheduling athletic facility rental requests.
  • Works with coaches, vendors and rental group representatives to ensure needs are met, including on-site supervision during athletic facility rentals and hiring, training and scheduling part time rental supervisor staff.
Other duties
  • Assist with the duties of the Associate Athletic Director Facility Operations responsibilities as needed.
Camps
  • Assist with sport camps including scheduling, registration (pre and on site), and working knowledge of camp registration database (JumpForward).
  • Cash handling responsibilities $5,000 – $10,000 monthly; Attend cash handling training.
Inventory
  • Assist with purchasing, annual inventory and maintenance of equipment related to offices, game day and facilities.
Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)

1. (A) Bachelor’s degree in Campus Recreation or Athletics, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field

or

(B) Three (3) years of responsible experience in the maintenance and operation of sports facilities (such as intercollegiate, recreational, or intramural facilities), two of which were in a supervisory capacity

AND

2. One (1) year of experience in the management of sports facilities, in addition to the training/experience required in #1

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)

  1. Knowledge of operation procedures of recreational facilities or comparable facilities.
  2. Knowledge and background of recreation and fitness programs.
  3. Knowledge and experience in planning, prioritizing, and organizing a complex workload.
  4. Knowledge of equipment standards and inventory records process.
  5. Knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional rules and regulations.
  6. Skills in leadership and management.
  7. Skills in budget development, facility management, personnel, training, and program development.
  8. Ability to train, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of others.
  9. Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written, and electronic forms.
  10. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
