Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of Agriculture at Eastern Kentucky University is seeking a talented and flexible faculty member who can teach an array of courses and advise students in animal and veterinary sciences. This is a tenure-track position with a nine-month appointment beginning August 2023; 80% teaching, 20% Service/Scholarship.
The position requires a Doctorate degree in Animal Science or a related field from a regionally (SACS, Middle States, North Central, etc.) accredited and recognized institution, and a broad-based educational and experiential background. The successful candidate is expected to recruit, advise, and mentor students in the established animal and veterinary sciences program that are seeking admittance to veterinary school, graduate school, and the industry workforce. It is expected that the candidate will teach courses in both ruminant and non-ruminant animal production as well as basic animal sciences which could include the following relative to the individuals experience and ability: genetics and breeding, nutrition, health and disease, physiology, or reproduction. The successful candidate will have access to the university farm which houses beef cattle, dairy cattle, poultry, sheep, and swine.
There will also be opportunities to advise student organizations, competitive teams, and represent the department at state, regional, and national meetings/conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with undergraduate students and with the agricultural community, and serve on Department, College, and/or University committees.
