More about the Division of Facilities, Planning, & Management (FP&M):
The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. We are responsible for everything from the building projects that change the face of campus to the flowers that beautify the grounds.

More about the Heating and Cooling Plant:
Physical Plant is the largest FP&M organizational unit and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of campus buildings, grounds, and utilities. Design resources, construction by the trades, and specialized facilities services are available for departmental requests and remodeling projects on a fee-for-service basis.
The Charter Street Heating & Cooling Plant and the Walnut Street Heating & Cooling Plant supply steam, chilled water, compressed air, electricity, and soft domestic water to the UW campus, as well as to UW Hospital & Clinics, the US Forest Service Forest Products Laboratories, and the Division of Veterans Affairs VA Hospital, and some other non-campus customers.

More about the Electrician Position:
This position would handle troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades to the Heating Plants Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls systems. This person would be involved in project management of outside projects involving the Electrical systems of the UW Heating Plants. It would also include assisting with Plant Electrical Shutdowns and Tie-ins.

Responsibilities: Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and life safety and electrical control systems to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.
  • 10% Interprets blueprints and drawings and completes electrical calculations to assess and determine specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client
  • 5% Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs
  • 50% Completes skilled electrical installations and repairs according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes in various work environments
  • 5% Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
  • 5% Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations
  • 5% Collaborates with and assists contractors as needed
  • 20% Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair complex industrial control system components such as boiler
    water level columns, VFD's (Variable Frequency Drives), BMS (boiler management system) control
    panels, Chiller control panels, High HP starter cabinets

Required:

Preferred, but not required to be considered:
-Microsoft Suite Experience and Knowledge

License/Certification:

Preferred
Journeyman Electrician - WI License

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday 6:00AM to 2:30PM.
