Job Summary:

This position is for a Steamfitter specializing in service work in a fast paced environment. The position will troubleshoot and repair/replace a wide range of boilers, chillers, laboratory refrigeration, and HVACR systems and equipment. The position will also be responsible for preventive maintenance on these types of systems and equipment. The position will interact and utilize digital controls software & pneumatics controls. The University has a wide range of facility ages and utilizes a spectrum HVACR equipment to support education, research, administration, and production.

Responsibilities: Lays out, installs, remodels, and maintains pipe systems for heating/chilling water hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and steam systems within power houses, distribution systems and buildings to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.
  • 10% Interprets blueprints and drawings to assess and verify specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client
  • 25% Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs
  • 25% Performs skilled steamfitter work according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes
  • 5% Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
  • 5% Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations
  • 5% Collaborates with and assists contractors as needed
  • 25% Installs, troubleshoots, and services Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVACR) systems and equipment

Education:

Required
High School Diploma and the completion of a registered apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a Steamfitter as defined on DWD website - https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/apprenticeship/trades/steamfitter-construction.htm

Qualifications:

Must have successfully completed an approved apprenticeship in the Steamfitter craft; or, must be recognized by an appropriate authority (e.g., labor union, trade organization, etc.); or, have performed at least 8,000 hours in the work processes and can provide verification if required to do so.
