The OHR Chief of Staff reports to and acts as an advisor to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and the Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer (DCHRO). You will be responsible for a broad variety of management activities in OHR. These activities include coordinating projects, managing OHR internal operations, and working with stakeholders to address organizational needs. You will also support collaboration with the HR community in a multitude of program areas including employment relations, benefit administration, talent acquisition, employee diversity and engagement, employee assistance, talent development, HR information systems, compensation administration, and other integral areas.

In addition, in this position, you will:
- Serve as a member of the Office of the CHRO team responsible for oversight of campus HR strategic, operational, and compliance initiatives.
- In collaboration with the OHR Leadership team, develop strategies communicate changes and manage competing priorities of HR programs across campus.
- Supervise and lead key operational functions in OHR, including internal operations, communications, web operations, marketing, and portfolio management.
- Provide strategic assistance on key issues, collecting information from campus stakeholders and working with appropriate OHR staff to collaboratively shape responses and develop presentations.
- Support key strategic projects.
- Coordinate, monitor, and regularly update OHR and functional area strategic plans and goals.
- Serve as representative of the Office of the CHRO to campus offices and committees, and act on behalf of the CHRO and/or DCHRO to ensure decisions and key initiatives are effectively implemented.

Responsibilities: Plans and directs all administrative, financial, and operational activities for a leadership position with institutional influence and oversight (Vice Chancellor, Associate Vice Chancellor, Dean, Provost, Vice Provost, Associate Vice Provost, Institutional Director/Chief). Organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the executive to facilitate efficient decision-making.
  • 30% Serves a chief advisor and main point of contact between university leadership and other stakeholders
  • 20% Provides oversight and guidance to projects of high importance
  • 10% Manages daily operations in a unit, department, or functional area of executive leadership
  • 10% Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives
  • 10% Oversees and approves policies developed within various sub-functions, departments, and work groups
  • 10% Serves as a strategic partner to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer (DCHRO), assisting with the implementation of the Office of the CHRO's vision and goals
  • 5% Develops and monitors the OHR budget
  • 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE employees

Qualifications:

Required:
-Candidates must have an employment record that demonstrates increasing responsibility and experience.
-Progressively responsible experience working in higher education, government, or complex organizations demonstrating successful use of discretion, collaboration, judgment and strategic planning

Preferred:
-Experience in human resources, administration and/or shared governance
-Candidates who hold a current appointment or held a prior appointment at a University of Wisconsin Campus or within the University of Wisconsin System

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
