Associate Dean for Business Affairs

Salary:

Minimum $129,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $185,000 - $200,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $129,000 to $239,600. Job Summary:

The College of Letters & Science (L&S) is the heart of UW-Madison and home to a tremendous breadth and depth of departments and degree-granting programs in the humanities, natural, physical, biological, and social sciences, and the computing, data and information sciences. L&S is recruiting this senior-level role which will provide leadership and support of administrative functions for the college, such as business services, human resources, information technology and the administrative transformation project (ATP). Reporting directly to the Dean of L&S, the Associate Dean for Business Affairs will:
- Serve as a critical member of the Dean's Senior Staff team
- Provide leadership across the college to proactively solve problems in a collaborative manner
- Contribute to delivering services with a focus on customer service and strategically approaching service delivery
- Inspire and support innovation and collaboration within assigned units and cultivate an atmosphere of learning, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency
- Foster partnerships and collaboration across the college and across campus
- Advance, embed and support diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging values, commitments and priorities throughout all areas of responsibility and across L&S

Responsibilities: Directs business operations for a school/college/division and has significant budgetary responsibility for multiple departments, centers or subunits; as well as oversight over multiple operational functions to include Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology. Criteria for use of this title is determined at the UW institutional level. Eligible use of this title is for schools/colleges/divisions with total expenditures greater than $125 million and greater than 750 FTE.
  • 25% Serves as the divisional representative and subject matter expert to institutional leadership and internal and external stakeholders providing strategic direction and information, fostering collaborative relationships across multiple functional areas, and representing the interests of the division
  • 25% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives for multiple functional areas to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan
  • 20% Works with senior administrative and academic leadership to design, establish, and maintain an administrative organizational structure to effectively and efficiently accomplish goals and objectives while appropriately defining duties and mitigating risk
  • 20% Serves as a major point of contact and catalyst for problem resolution. Provides insightful and diplomatic communications
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or napproving hours worked of at least 2.0 full time equivalent (FTE) employees

Qualifications:

- 7 years of increasingly responsible management experience and evidence of progressive leadership responsibilities in at least one of the following areas: business services, human resources, information technology, or a related administrative field
- Possess a leadership style that is collaborative, fosters innovation, and supports team development and success
- Demonstrate a commitment to high-quality service delivery
- Experience in applying strategic, creative, and systems thinking to problem solving and managing a variety of high-level projects concurrently
- Demonstrate the use of sound judgment and integrity in decision-making
- Demonstrate a commitment to embedding diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging values into programs, services and priorities
- Demonstrate excellence in written and oral communication skills, and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships
- Proficient in use of Excel and other data management tools and the ability to analyze data

- Experience in higher education
- Experience providing leadership to a multi-functional team

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
