Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum, one of the nation’s preeminent cultural institutions in an academic setting, invites applications for the two-year term position of Art Information Fellow. This is an entry level position. A successful candidate will have completed a Bachelor’s degree with no more than 3 years experience.

Reporting to the Manager of Art Information, the Art Information Fellow will work as part of the Art Information & Systems team to support the execution of the Museum’s art information activities. This work includes supporting both internal and external Museum audiences through the creation and efficient flow of collections data, ensuring both access to and preservation of content, and the application of best practice standards. The Fellow will gain direct experience in a variety of functions and roles related to the continued development and maintenance of a program of standards and practices meant to sustain and continually improve the Museum’s ability to document the artworks held in its collections.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Catalogue works of art and images into the cross-departmental centralized collections information system, Gallery System’s The Museum System (TMS).
  • Support the art information team’s efforts to implement and utilize best practices in the cataloguing of works of art, collaborating with curators to provide image and information needs for exhibition and publications planning.
  • Support the Museum’s engagement with collaborative projects across the University that leverage the Museum’s commitment to open access art information resources.
  • Participate in Museum and community events, meetings, and forums.


Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player on mutual goals.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Curiosity and problem-solving orientation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Preferred Requirements:

  • Interest in or familiarity with museum cataloguing standards and best practices.
  • Interest in or familiarity with aspects of data management, digital media, as well as data architecture and data exchange principles.
