Position Summary

The Department of Housing and Residence Life at Winston-Salem State University seeks an Assistant Director of Housing Services and Occupancy Management to join the team!

The Assistant Director of Housing Services and Occupancy Management provides strategic leadership and direction in the delivery of an array of services designed to enhance the experiences of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students residing in Winston-Salem State University Housing by collaborating with other WSSU Housing, Residence Life, and university partners.

The Assistant Director of Housing Services and Occupancy Management provides both administrative and functional supervision for WSSU’s Housing Assignments team. The position is responsible for setting policy each year, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life, and designs operational procedures for managing applications, room/apartment assignments and contracts for approximately 2600 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

The Assistant Director of Housing Services and Occupancy Management handles eligibility requirements for prospective and current residents and manages requests for contract modification and termination. The position is the primary administrative liaison for professional colleagues across the institution on occupancy management related issues; the occupancy level of WSSU Housing directly, and significantly impacts WSSU Dining and Campus Life Facilities. The nature of the work is dynamic and requires an eye for detail as systems, policies, and data change from year to year.

Department Required Skills
  • Completion of a Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Business Management or a related field
  • Previous experience in housing administration, residential property management, or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and housing software systems
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Strong customer services skills in working with diverse populations
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • Prior experience with StarRez housing software or RMS Mercury
  • Prior experience with SQL language and database management
  • Knowledge of North Carolina information systems (e.g., Banner, StarRez, RMS Mercury)
  • Knowledge of federal and state law in housing (e.g., Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Act)
  • Experience in housing assignment-related work including housing applications and contracts
  • Experience working in a computerized Housing Management System environment
  • Three (3) years experience with progressive supervisory and administrative services experience in college housing
  • Familiarity with Maxient student conduct software
