Position Summary and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the College for Student Growth and Engagement, the Director of the Vassar College LGBTQ+ Center supports and enhances the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer identifying students, and engages all our students in relevant conversations towards that end.

The Director will also help advance Vassar's commitment to engaged pluralism, and the creation of an institutional environment through advancements in gender and LGBTQ+ policies, facilities, and other inclusive practices. The Director will maintain and update campus community resources and tools in keeping with current best practices in the field.

Working as a pivotal member of the Student Growth & Engagement team and the Dean of the College area, the Director will work closely with students, faculty, and other administrators to support an institutional environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Office of Student Growth & Engagement and the Dean of the College area in building a supportive and affirming campus community for all students
  • Direct the LGBTQ+ Center and its daily operations, and manage the annual budget
  • Hire and supervise center student employees, and work closely with LGBTQ+ student leaders through center activities
  • Advise and mentor students on campus life, student organization programming, leadership activities, campus community relations, conflict resolution and other areas of the undergraduate experience
  • Assist with resources and referrals for individual LGBTQ+ students, including to academic services, health services, financial services, various Dean of the College areas, as well as relevant local community resources
  • Facilitate collaborative campus partnerships with a variety of constituents and assist LGBTQ+ student groups and organizations with educational programming initiatives and resources
  • Build partnerships with community organizations to support the center and relevant local projects external to the Vassar community
  • Network with alumnae/i affinity groups and other constituencies that can support LGBTQ+ student communities and other relevant campus life initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with other affinity resource areas such as the ALANA Center, the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and Vassar Veterans, etc. in support of students and campus-wide initiatives
  • Participate in campus-wide committees and other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Growth & Engagement as relevant to supporting student communities, which might include Athletics, Campus Resource, Education and Support Team (CREST) Health and Wellness, and the Support Advocacy and Violence Prevention program (SAVP), etc.


Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in relevant field required - Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in college student life, and diversity and inclusion efforts
  • Experience in a self-directed role demonstrating confidence, initiative and flexibility
  • Successful leadership experience in a college environment, and experience responding to multiple constituencies on campus
  • Experience working with and advising student employees and student leaders in college
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a broad range of individuals internally and externally
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills; the ability to be diplomatic in oral and written communication
  • Demonstrated professionalism and sound judgment
  • Excellent collaboration and facilitation skills
  • Commitment to the mission and values of a liberal arts institution
