Job Summary

The Studio Coordinator is an essential member of the Art, Film, and Visual Studies team and works closely with faculty, students, Teaching Assistants, Teaching Fellows, and AFVS Department staff. This position oversees and responds to the daily curricular needs of the AFVS department that include studio supplies or space and oversight of process-specific materials. Acting as a leading team member, they report to the Photo Manager and work closely with the Woodshop Coordinator, other Studio staff, and the Teaching Assistants assigned to the Fabrication Lab and Digital Classroom. This position offers administrative support to Studio Faculty and is responsible for the organization, maintenance, and upkeep of the studio classrooms and making spaces. They keep course materials stocked as well as unique items required for student projects. Working with Studio staff, this position coordinates and facilitates access to digital resources, including a fabrication lab and a large-format inkjet printing lab. This position also works with the Manager of Equipment to facilitate use of cameras, projectors, and other equipment required for creative projects.

Basic Qualifications

This position must have three years of experience teaching art or working in an art studio, as well as three years of experience with digital equipment.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

An MFA is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will possess both the technical ability to run a large academic studio space as well as a strong administrative skillset.

Position Description

Administrative
  • Purchase all studio-related course supplies
  • Schedule and support studio area faculty meetings
  • Provide start-of-term studio orientations to Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows
  • Meet with Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows regularly throughout the semester
  • Coordinate use of the Fabrication Lab and Digital Classroom, including trainings
  • Work with the Woodshop Coordinator to organize installation and carpentry trainings
Technical
  • Maintain and upkeep studio equipment and making spaces
  • Facilitate the technical needs of the studio making processes
  • Identify and procure studio materials, tools, and equipment needed for classes
  • Along with the Equipment Manager, maintain a video equipment inventory for student use; facilitate equipment loans
  • Work closely with faculty, Teaching Assistants, and Teaching Fellows to organize the recurring end-of-term open house event
  • Coordinate with the Office of Physical Resources in the making spaces when needed
