T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics (SSFD) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a postdoctoral research scholar with interest in adolescent interpersonal experiences and well-being. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Mengya Xia on a NIH-funded research project on adolescent social connection and well-being at daily and yearly levels. The anticipated start date is around September 1st 2023, with potential flexibility. This is a 12-month, benefits-eligible position that is renewable for up to five years upon successful demonstration of academic productivity. The salary is commensurate with experience.

Applications are invited from individuals who are interested in a position combining data management/analysis, some project management, and manuscript writing for publication utilizing available datasets. Applicants who would like to pursue this position should have (1) experience in statistical analysis of longitudinal data (e.g., advanced structural equation modeling and/or multilevel modeling), (2) a background in child/adolescent development, relationship research, and/or positive psychology perspectives, and (3) strong conceptualization and writing skills. Such an individual will have the opportunity to work on multiple methods data (e.g., EEG, eye tracking data), daily parent-adolescent triadic data and multi-wave longitudinal data on family dynamics, and cross-culturally qualitative and quantitative data on assets and well-being.

Essential Duties

  • Data analysis and data management
  • Writing scientific papers, grant proposals, and presenting at conferences
  • Study coordination, project management, and supervising other research staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in developmental psychology, human development and family studies, quantitative psychology, or a related area by start date
  • Background/interests in adolescent socioemotional development, interpersonal dynamics, daily and longitudinal research
  • Analytic skills in statistical methods, such as structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, mixture modeling using Mplus, R, and/or SAS
  • Evidence of independent scholarship and team collaboration, strong interpersonal communication skills, and outstanding academic writing skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff populations and communities

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with collecting and analyzing diary and longitudinal data
  • Prior first-author publication experience at peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience of lab management and data collection management
  • Experience with dynamical systems, GIMME, longitudinal network analyses, and other advanced statistical methods for intensive longitudinal data
