Comptroller, GSU Foundation - Hybrid

UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT seeks an experienced GSUF Controller to lead, manage and oversee a team of ten in support of finance and accounting services and activities for all aspects of the GSUF and subsidiaries. The GSUF Controller reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, Finance, and Operations & CFO of the GSUF. The ideal candidate will have a degree in accounting, a CPA designation, and six years of experience possessing strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES : The Controller plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the fiscal and administrative finance and accounting operations of the Foundation. Specific areas of responsibility include accounting, audit, accounts payable (disbursements & scholarships), budgeting, finance, investment and property accounting, cash management, reconciliations, compliance, reporting, policy, and procedures, including:
  • Guides disbursements, expenditure requests, fund management, and GSUF policies and procedures. Recommends policies for new, reoccurring, and developing issues in partnership with management. Keeps abreast of tax policy to identify activities that result in tax reporting.
  • Coordinates and oversees the entries for monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger preparation, including entries for investments, gifts & pledges, properties, liabilities, and fund activities. Ensures the accuracy of all ledger balances.
  • Provides analyses of financial data and coordinates and oversees the preparation of GSUF financial reports, including the annual audit reports and federal income tax returns prepared by CPA firm.
  • Monitors operations and develops recommendations to Improve processing efficiency and effectiveness and strengthen internal controls.
  • Reviews financial products coordinates with IT on installation/upgrades/patches, and trains staff on new functionality.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with administrative officers and business managers concerning receipting disbursement and fund management issues. Reviews and approves GSUF disbursement requests and ensures that disbursements are made timely and within policy.
  • Oversees the daily cash management function to ensure that controls are maintained and entries are made timely and within policy.
  • Oversees the GSUF scholarship award process. Coordinates with Admissions and Student Financial Services staff to ensure current funding is awarded and funds are available for future awards.
  • Ensures all property and tax-exempt bond transactions are completed, and the required continuing compliance disclosures are prepared and provided to the regulatory bond agencies and bond trustee.
  • Acts as day-to-day GSUF liaison with external entities for investments, investment reporting, audit, banking, construction projects, bond issues, etc.
  • Manages a team of accounting professionals and ensures that staff members are adequately supervised and trained. Maintains a good working environment and a high standard of efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and six years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and experience.
PREFERED REQUIREMENTS:
  • A degree in accounting, CPA designation
  • Experience in higher education
  • Government or nonprofit accounting
  • Reporting with experience preparing Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) basis financial statements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and management skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally.
  • Experience with real estate or bond financing accounting and accounting software such as Blackbaud Financial Edge & Spectrum.
