    REPORTS TO: Director, Accessibility Services

    This position oversees Center for Adult Transitions program activities that provide support and resources for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role facilitates successful transitions for these students from secondary school to postsecondary education to adult employment, ultimately promoting independent living opportunities by providing the necessary skills to be successful.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Collaborates with academic program staff and job placement agencies to develop and provide the occupational training component of the program.
  2. Coordinates Center outreach, intake, enrollment, orientation, educational activities, and services with staff, students, and employers.
  3. Coordinates program support services for program participants and refers students to academic and support services, as needed.
  4. Establishes and nurtures linkages with community organizations that support and educate students with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
  5. Evaluates, verifies, and interprets documentation from various professionals to determine eligibility and appropriate/reasonable disability related accommodations at the college level.
  6. Assists students in identifying and enrolling in activities that support future employment in collaboration with community agencies.
  7. Conducts the initial application and intake processes.
  8. Develops individual student plans and schedules that support personal, academic, and career goals.
  9. Supports and coordinates a peer mentoring program for students to help them gain access to Middlesex College events, clubs, and other areas of interests.
  10. Assists students with developing self-advocacy and self-determination skills to foster daily living proficiencies.
  11. Responds to inquiries via in-person meetings, phone, text, and e-mail.
  12. Collects data and prepares reports as required.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate Degree
  • Two (2) years’ demonstrated experience coordinating program activities related to student training and employment
  • Knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including the ADA as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other College offices or organizations that impact or relate to performance of responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse and changing student body and with professional staff
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Rehabilitation Counseling Certification (CRC)
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant Certification (LDTC)
  • Two (2) years of experience in providing direct services to persons with disabilities or experience in college counseling and academic advising/counseling
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or American Sign Language
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment
  • Previous experience working on a grant-funded project
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Duration: July 12, 2023 to June 30, 2024

RETIREMENT PLAN: Pension Eligible

Any new employee hired by Middlesex College after September 1, 2011 must comply with New Jersey residency requirements.



This is a specially funded position, dependent for its existence upon federal, State, or other non-College operating funds, and is not funded pursuant to the regular College budget. Continued employment is always contingent upon satisfactory performance and College needs. Grant funded positions are also contingent upon continued funding. This appointment is for the specified period only. Employment beyond the expiration date of the grant is subject to appropriate provisions of existing collectively bargained agreements in effect at the time for employees covered by those agreements.
