Mail Clerk

General Statement of Job

The Mail Courier sorts incoming mail for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail and printing jobs by performing the following duties.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Drives University vehicle to pick up or deliver mail to Post Office.

Sorts incoming mail by building and department

Delivers mail and printing to appropriate building and department.

Picks up printing and outgoing mail.

Sorts and bundles outgoing mail as needed.

Processes outgoing mail with postal machine.

Assists other office services staff as needed.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) required.

Related experience and/or training preferred.

Must have valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet insurance requirements for operating University vehicles.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
