General Statement of Job

The Early Childhood Lead Teacher Substitute oversees and instructs students in a classroom setting during the lead teacher’s absence. This position utilizes innovative and effective teaching methods to enhance the knowledge and skills of students in the class when the lead teacher is absent. The Early Childhood Lead Teacher Substitute follows the mission of MSSU Lion Cub Academy aligned with the goals and objectives set for by the administration of MSSU LCA.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Completes the Family Care Safety Registry and FBI background checks before working with children.

Follows the lesson plans for classroom teaching activities provided by the lead teacher.

Conducts daily attendance checks.

Documents developmental observations for the lead teacher in her absence.

Collaboratively work with student worker candidates and/or PT Teacher Assistants within their classroom.

Attend staff meetings and workshops to meet 12 hours minimum required by licensing guidelines.

Implements the food program; by assisting with records keeping, preparation and/or serving of meals and snacks in the lead teacher absence.

Communicates effectively with all staff.

Completes paperwork assigned by lead teacher and/or director for the allotted substituting time.

Assumes the lead teacher’s duties. Asks questions and reports any concerns with the director.

Performs other related duties as required.

Complies with Missouri Child Care Licensing requirements.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Minimum one-year experience is preferred but not required for this position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
