Job Summary

CU Boulder is now encouraging applications for a Plumber ! This position is responsible for scheduling, repairing and maintaining University of Colorado Boulder Housing and Dining Facilities Services plumbing systems to keep them in a clean, safe, and functional condition. The Plumber will be available to provide immediate response to failed plumbing and heating systems, including drain and waste systems, domestic water systems, hydronic heating systems and natural gas systems in accordance with current plumbing code and health department regulations.

Who We Are

Housing Facilities Services (HFS) is a comprehensive facility management operation that provides around-the-clock support to over 10,000 residents and 20,000 conference guests annually. Services include maintenance, repair, renovation, project management, capital construction, housekeeping, and grounds-keeping operations. HFS has approximately 190 full-time employees, as well as approximately 80 part-time and student staff, who all strive to give residents the best living experience possible.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.

The work in Student Affairs supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Student Affairs also has shared services departments that support the work and staff of our student-facing areas, including areas like assessment, business services, financial planning, human resources, marketing communications and information technology (IT).

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Plumbing Drain Systems
  • Restore drain, waste and vent systems' functionality by using appropriate chemical, hand or power equipment to remove obstructions.
Piping & Fixture Maintenance/Repair
  • Stop or repair leaks in waste, drain, natural gas, domestic water and hydronic heating by using tools and replacement parts and fittings.
  • Restore faucets, water closets, urinals, sinks, valves, water heaters and other components to original functionality by installing repair parts, or by replacing component.
Heating Systems Maintenance & Repair
  • Maintain and restore circulation in systems by repairing or replacing domestic hot water circulating pumps and hydronic heating pumps, minimize pump replacement by regularly providing preventative maintenance.
  • Provide safe and comfortable facilities by repair/replacement and adjustment of radiator, unit heater controls valves and domestic hot water control valves.
Preventative Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled Preventive maintenance/service i.e. change filters, clean coils, oil/grease bearings, pumps, and building/mechanical room inspections.
  • Support Building Mechanics with preventive maintenance and daily work orders.
Code Requirements & Miscellaneous
  • Follow current code requirements by repairing, altering or replacing plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Use of a University vehicle will be required to complete some of these duties.
What You Should Know
  • Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm. The position will also be on an on-call rotation with other Housing employees. Position is designated Essential Services and must report to work when called after hours, weekends, or holidays.
  • This position operates a University vehicle and a Driver's License is required.
  • This position is considered Essential Services.
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Placement Physical is required.
What We Can Offer
  • The salary range for this position is $53,400 - $68,500 annually.

What We Require
  • Three years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Current licensed Colorado Journeymen or Master Plumber, preferably with 2 years of experience.
What You Will Need
  • Customer service oriented, works well alone or in a team environment, being an active listener and problem solver.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Backflow Prevention State Certification.
