High Point University invites applications for a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader as the Founding Chair of the new Department of Neuroscience preferably at the Associate Professor rank with a flexible start date on or before August 15, 2024. Responsibilities include working to develop and improve our existing neuroscience degree program, planning strategic hiring of future research-active faculty, working closely with the dean and chairs of the departments of biology, chemistry, physics and psychology, recruiting students, teaching introductory and advanced neuroscience courses and developing an upper-level elective course in your area of expertise. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and a prior record of academic leadership. Preference will be given to candidates seeking to develop an active research program involving undergraduates using research models that can be implemented at a primarily undergraduate institution. A Ph.D. in neuroscience or a closely related field is required, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.

This tenure/tenure-track position includes start-up research funds and laboratory and office space in our new $72M state-of-the-art science building, which currently houses the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the Wanek School of Natural Sciences. Currently, the Neuroscience degree is an interdisciplinary program housed in the Department of Biology collaborating closely with faculty in the Department of Psychology. There are more than 65 B.S. Neuroscience majors enrolled at HPU.
