Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, the Director of Multicultural Education and Training is charged with the development of competency-based trainings and workshops surrounding topical areas related to diversity, inclusion and social identity development for students, faculty, and staff. The Director will support the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion in the execution of strategic initiatives and additional programming in alignment with the University’s strategic plan related to inclusive excellence. The Director will design and implement strategies to facilitate student success and support retention initiatives (QU-FYI, Sawhney Leadership Program, and Quest Mentoring Program) for underrepresented student populations; create cross-cultural and diversity programs for students, faculty and staff; provide educational and cultural support to student organizations.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, execute, and benchmark workshops and trainings focused on diversity, social identity development, cultural competence, intersectionality, allyship and related topics for the University community
  • Assist VPEI/CDO in the development of a university-wide diversity and inclusion curriculum for online and in-person delivery to the campus community
  • Assist VPEI/CDO in collaboration with the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement to raise cultural competencies and provide on-going educational dialogue about inclusive excellence to faculty, staff, and students
  • Foster multicultural awareness and cross-cultural interaction among students, faculty and staff
  • Develop goals, assess program effectiveness, and implement improvement in programs sponsored by the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement
  • Recruit, train, and provide ongoing support for a network of University facilitators to lead student, faculty, and staff trainings and workshops
  • Create and manage or partner with other campus functions to provide opportunities for cultural exchange, dialogue, bias response, and engagement for all students, faculty, and staff
  • Work with the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement staff to integrate students' international experiences back to the campus and the community
  • Work closely with Student Affairs to create a DEI Certificate that creates leadership opportunities for all students to help promote a University community that is equitable and inclusive
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs and Human Resources to facilitate and promote Safe Space training to raise awareness of LGTBQ issues on campus
  • Oversee the development and implementation of new and already-established diversity dialogue programs that demonstrate specific learning and assessment outcomes
  • Continue to identify and execute both formal and informal means of delivery for diversity and inclusion training to the faculty who teach the freshmen seminar courses
  • Supervise the Associate Director of Multicultural Education, who is focused on working with students and developing cultural programming on campus
  • Other duties as assigned
Education Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Student Leadership, Multicultural Education, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion or related field required
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a role directly related to diversity, equity, inclusion training and assessment programs and services at a college/university (5-7 preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations in a college/university setting with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff
  • Experience with programming, facilitating large groups, and understanding of issues of multicultural education
  • Must possess a high degree of knowledge and sensitivity to the concerns of underrepresented student communities, diversity and social issues, and a dedication to student growth and development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the intersections of race, class, gender, sexual identity, gender identity and expression, and other areas of diversity experienced in an institution of higher education
  • Ability to take initiative and exercise leadership skills and communicate effectively in written and oral form
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate across many department, functions, divisions, and communities
  • Knowledge and experience with anti-bias trainings and the development of educational programs with learning and assessment outcomes
  • Night and weekend work may be required
