The HR team at CMU is embarking on a multi-year effort to improve systems, processes and services. Does the prospect of supporting groundbreaking change within an organization energize you?
We are searching for two HR Business Partners. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. In this role, you will be responsible for performing HR-related duties on both a strategic and tactical level for designated academic and administrative units. You will assist with key HR processes in order to provide a seamless experience to the CMU employee as it relates to all HR activities.
Core responsibilities will include:
Providing leadership in the following HR-related areas and collaborating with academic and administrative leaders in the attainment of OHR’s goals and the development of assigned college’s/division’s HR strategy/people agenda:
- Employee Relations - assess and resolve employee relations matters, and support/guide academic/business leaders in taking an appropriate course of action; work with clients to actively identify employee relations trends, craft solutions that will assist with designing strategies to improve employee relations and engagement, and manage the implementation of those strategies; function as an advocate for employees whose concerns and messages need to be advanced
- Performance Management - provide coaching and guidance to managers and leaders as they provide ongoing feedback to employees, drive performance review processes across client group(s), assist with lower performers and disciplinary action.
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - champion the richness diversity brings by developing, leading and executing HR solutions that celebrate the diversity of our people, their backgrounds and experiences; cultivate a workplace where differences can thrive and be used to build an inclusive and dynamic workplace where all staff, faculty and students feel welcomed, supported and empowered to do their best.
- Workforce Planning - identify and analyze what the organization is going to need in terms of the size, type, experience, knowledge, and skills of its workforce to achieve its objectives.
- Recruitment, Onboarding, and Offboarding - partner with Talent Acquisition on staffing strategies, equip managers with resources for onboarding new hires, and conduct exit discussions.
- Training - build manager and employee capability through training offerings and individual coaching meetings; partner with internal HR groups to determine custom offerings to meet client group needs.
- Analyzing employee engagement, attrition, and other metrics for client(s), University leadership or Human Resources leadership for review, then creating action plans required for follow-up and implementation
- Developing reciprocal relationships with other Human Resources partners (Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, Learning and Development, and Equal Opportunity Services) and effectively determining the appropriate junctures at which to engage these partners in providing more holistic human resources support to assigned client group(s)
- Identifying and leading process improvement initiatives that develop a continuous improvement culture and enable the team to deliver exceptional client support
- Providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching to HR Generalists
- Other duties as assigned
You should demonstrate:
- Strong working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including but not limited to employee relations, diversity, equity and inclusion, compensation, benefits, training, organizational design, recruiting and performance management
- Inclusive, reciprocal, and service-oriented leadership and team management skills
- An executive presence, the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, and the capability to positively influence change
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency, capability to balance multiple priorities and complex projects and tasks in a fast-paced setting
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Collaboration skills with proven success in building and maintaining effective working partnerships across all areas
- Critical thinking skills to connect the dots, identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, arrive at conclusions, and suggest productive approaches to problems
- Attention to detail, ability to maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, effectively prioritize, self-manage, and tolerate ambiguity
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- HR Business Partner II : Minimum five years of related HR experience, with at least three years of employee relations experience required
- HR Business Partner I : Minimum five years of related HR experience, with at least one year of employee relations experience required
- Or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP highly desired.
- Experience in a complex, matrixed organization with varied business units and decentralized processes highly desired.
- Experience with Workday or related HRIS systems highly desired
