Job Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Lab Technician to provide technical support and services within a lab in support of research, projects, services, and/or instruction within the Department of Pathobiology .
Laboratory Research Associate for managing routine laboratory operations and physically and technically supporting various biomedical experiments involving microorganisms, biological and chemical reagents, and laboratory animals. The personnel hired for this position will also be in charge of ordering and inventorying laboratory supplies, maintaining laboratory SOPs and safety documents, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, and managing and disposing of physical, chemical, and biological laboratory waste materials.

Essential Functions
- Conducts routine and specialized laboratory analysis.
- Maintains experiments, lab classroom set-ups, and/or lab projects/services.
- Coordinates the availability, use, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, materials, and/or key inventories.
- Assists others by providing expertise and advice concerning laboratory operation and safety.
- May collect and analyze data and perform observations for analysis.
- May oversee and train graduate and undergraduate students in the proper use of equipment and supplies.
- May coordinate with industry and/or other university researchers and provide input on experimental designs and practical implications of research results.
- May assist faculty and/or lab director in preparing/teaching/conducting laboratory courses and lecture demonstrations.
Minimum Qualifications
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant experience in performing tests and/or research in a lab setting.
Level III : High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience in performing tests and/or research in a lab setting.
Level IV: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of relevant experience in performing tests and/or research in a lab setting.
Substitutions for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year of relevant education per year of required experience.

- A master’s degree in biology, microbiology, biomedical science, animal science, or related fields.
- Willingness to work with mice and pigs and handle laboratory animals.
- Experience in handling laboratory mice and other animals, such as pigs.
- Experience working in a biomedical laboratory.
- Knowledge of basic or advanced microbiology techniques.
- Knowledge of basic or advanced molecular techniques.
- Experience assisting in surgical or medical procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
