Job Summary

The Associate Director, Marketing and Communication is a critical member of the College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE) and is responsible for promoting its professional education programs and is charged with developing strategies and executing on high quality and data-driven marketing and communications plans to achieve CPGE goals. The Associate Director, Marketing and Communications reports to the Senior Director of Marketing, Communications and Outreach. As the chief marketing lead for professional education programs, the Associate Director works closely with professional educational program staff and academic partners to devise and implement successful marketing campaigns and works closely with vendors and campus units to optimize enrollments.

The Associate Director has responsibility for a broad array of marketing and communications services including: development and implementation of integrated marketing and communications strategies, market research and analysis, branding and identity, establishing “live“ and digital presence, content development plans, public relations campaigns, and customer relationship management. The Associate Director adapts to institutional and market changes, and responds quickly to new and evolving markets in order to drive growth across the College’s programs. The position leads a team of marketing professionals in service of CPGE’s mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, implement, and measure the success of comprehensive marketing, communications, and outreach activities for professional education programs and initiatives
  • Oversee vendor marketing plan implementation, set and monitor standards, track results, and adjust tactics as necessary to achieve goals
  • Manage the creation/development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and digital assets (e.g., newsletters, brochures, reports, website, social media, videos and website) for multiple channels
  • Manage SJSU-student directed marketing plans through university channels, such as emails, events, signage and media
  • Develop launch strategies for new professional education programs designed to quickly expand awareness in order to meet or exceed enrollment targets.
  • Oversee and lead the brand identity strategy of the College and implement ways to promote the College as a whole as well as specific programs and initiatives
  • Implement activities to market to corporations and industry leaders as part of CPGE business development plans
  • Define the CPGE brand as it relates to its program offerings, and increase brand awareness both internally and externally
  • Conduct and manage market research activities in order to keep abreast of changing markets and other relevant issues for professional education
  • Analyze areas for diversifying portfolio of programs and partners, and execute on those with high demand and manageable costs
  • Work closely with academic departments to partner and offer both for-credit as well as non-credit programs for local, national, and international student markets
  • Manage and Incorporate customer relationship management (CRM) strategies and processes to cultivate and yield prospective students
  • Incorporate automated processes and technology relevant to marketing, communications and outreach activities to achieve operational efficiencies for a variety of stakeholders (e.g., students, CPGE staff, departmental partners, agents, etc.)
  • Develop departmental policies and procedures, and ensure overall practices are compliant with University, California State University, SJSU, state, and federal guidelines and regulations
  • Lead operations of the unit, including staff workflow, planning, fiscal management, and service quality management
  • Provide training, mentoring, and assist with performance evaluation of the staff in the unit
  • Manage the use of external resources as they pertain to the marketing and communications functions (e.g. advertising agency, printers, videographers, market research firms, agents, etc.)
  • Provide data and write reports as required by CPGE, SJSU, CSU, or other external agencies
  • Coordinate with SJSU units involved in Professional Education programs including Enrollment Services, Strategic Communications, academic colleges, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain budget and resources to ensure that the department is operationally and fiscally sound
  • Allot marketing budgets to key programs and track expenditures
  • Prepare regular reports for Senior Director and others tracking budgets and return on investment
  • Serve on campus committees and projects involving the college as assigned
  • Lead and serve on search committees for key staff

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the nature, dynamics, and issues of extended education
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse segments of the University and local and international communities
  • Ability to create structure and definition around complex programs and services
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing branding, messaging, advertising, marketing, and design strategy
  • Expertise with a wide range of communications practices and tactics including writing, editing, integrated digital communications, social media, and public relations.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; demonstrated proficiency in communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely
  • Skilled in program management and project management – from idea generation, analysis, implementation, deployment, assessment, and refinement
  • In-depth knowledge of campus operations across various divisions such as academic affairs, finance and administration, and student services. Must have a comprehensive understanding of academic programs and services of SJSU as well as those of CPGE
  • Ability and willingness to travel within and outside of U.S. with valid documents
  • Ability to provide positive team leadership and guidance for maximum performance and work satisfaction
  • Ability to effectively engage campus offices including academic departments, student services, finance and administration to ensure the understanding and success of marketing and communications campaigns for the College
  • Skilled in managing budgets
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training.
  • Six years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or related field.
  • Ten years progressive marketing experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse marketing communication, and promotional functions
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the nature, dynamics, and issues of extended education.
  • Experience creating, managing and allocating budgets across multiple programs and projects.
  • At least five years’ experience utilizing database systems to cultivate leads and nurture prospects.
Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist, Exempt III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,500/month - $8,000/month
Salary Range: $5,908/month - $11,481/month
