The Department of Political Science and History at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Political Science , BA in History , and BA in International Studies degrees, is seeking to fill a position at the Associate or Assistant professor level beginning Fall 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as the chair of the Department of Political Science and History, with overall responsibility for managing the department, to include budget, enrollment, course scheduling, faculty evaluation of teaching effectiveness, as well as for ensuring the department meets goals in the areas of recruitment, retention, internships and placement, and grantsmanship. They should also be committed to teaching, the advisement of students and capable of leading faculty in research and grantsmanship activity. The department chair reports directly to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and is part of the School’s leadership team.

Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate capacity for leadership, an active research agenda, potential for, or record of, externally funded research activity, and commitment to quality teaching and mentoring of students.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of holding a Ph.D. in Political Science, History, or International Studies. Leadership and teaching experience at the university level in undergraduate and/or graduate settings, ability to conduct scholarly/funded research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets, and the ability to advise students is required.
