The Department of English and Foreign Language at Hampton University , which houses the BA in English, with concentrations in Creative Writing; Film Studies , and Arts as well as a 5th year Master in Teaching, is seeking to fill two faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate professor level in Spanish beginning Fall 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be committed to teaching undergraduate courses such as Elementary Spanish, Intermediate Spanish, Conversational Spanish, Advanced Oral & Written Expression, Survey of Hispanic Literature, Spanish for Business and Industry, and other discipline-related topics. In addition to these courses, we are also interested in candidates who can teach Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of French or German and other courses related to French and German Studies. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and the University through a productive research agenda that includes grantsmanship as well as service activities. Successful candidates are expected to advise majors in English and Foreign Languages and hold office hours.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have an earned doctorate in Spanish or related field from an accredited university. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching in a university setting is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in research and grantsmanship. Although there is an expectation of hiring at the Assistant Professor rank, we will consider filling the position at a higher rank depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. Rank and compensation are commensurate with credentials and experience. Candidates whose research interests intersect with Diaspora Studies, Ethnic Studies, Film and Media Studies, and Gender and Sexuality Studies are especially welcome.
