Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Global Change in the Department of Earth



Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Global Change in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 520804), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Direct tenure may be offered to exceptionally outstanding Associate Professor candidates.

The Department of Earth Sciences has research strengths in Earth history and global change, solid Earth and planetary sciences and applied/urban geosciences, and houses major research facilities. For more information on the Department, please visit https://www.earthsciences.hku.hk/ .

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, with a strong commitment to research and teaching. They should be able to demonstrate excellence in research in global change, with a focus on ocean and atmosphere research. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, regional climate modelling, physical oceanography/ocean modelling, atmospheric science, (recent) climate change, carbon cycle and carbon neutrality. Experience in knowledge exchange activities and impact case study ( https://www.ke.hku.hk/ ) would be beneficial. Teaching duties will be assigned by the Head of Department with a reduced teaching load in the first two years of appointment. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of the basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
