Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or clinical track faculty member in small animal surgery. Depending on qualifications and experience, the position is at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. Requirements include the DVM/VMD or equivalent degree and completion of a formal surgery residency and certification or eligibility for certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department’s reputation by participation in clinical, didactic and laboratory teaching of small animal surgery to veterinary students, interns, and residents; participation in continuing education at the local and national levels; and development of a basic science or clinical research program or other forms of scholarly activity. Start-up funds are available to support research or scholarly activity.
Faculty within the small animal surgery section currently include five ACVS board certified surgeons; four surgery residents; three neurosurgeons (DACVIM-Neurology); three neurology residents; two sports medicine specialists (DACVSMR); four anesthesiologists (DACVA); three anesthesia residents; and thirteen rotating interns. The orthopedic service is a high-level referral center and general orthopedic clinic complemented with the Canine Arthritis Rehabilitation Exercise Science & Sports Medicine (CARES) Center. The CARES Center has a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility with three under-water treadmills, an exercise pool, and a small animal hyperbaric oxygen chamber. The Center also contains a fully equipped gait analysis laboratory with kinetic and kinematic testing capability.

The Small Animal Clinic is equipped to provide state-of-the-art surgical and medical services, teaching, and research. The facilities and equipment of the Small Animal Clinic support 24 specialties and include surgical and therapeutic lasers, negative pressure wound therapy, Force Triad, operating microscope, 40 slice computed tomography unit, 1.5 Tesla MRI, nuclear medicine, intraoperative fluoroscopy, video endoscopy, stenting, lithotripsy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, DEXA scanning, total hip system, and a full complement of implants, including plating, pinning, external fixation, circular fixation, interlocking nails, and 3-D printing capabilities. Also available to the surgery clinic are a fully developed nutrition service, a regenerative medicine laboratory, critical care specialists, and a veterinary social work program.
Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee flagship campus, and is a beautiful and friendly place to live. Qualifications

Requirements include a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree, completion of a surgical residency and certification or eligibility for certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or European College of Veterinary Surgeons.
