Description

The University of Tennessee invites applications from all qualified individuals for a full-time (12 month)
faculty appointment in the College of Veterinary Medicine (https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/). The
position will be offered as a tenure-track assistant or associate professor, dependent on the individual’s
interests and qualifications, and will reside in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences.

The College is seeking qualified applicants who can provide high quality instruction in veterinary public
health and epidemiology, specifically focused on One Health and zoonoses, to professional (DVM)
students and students enrolled in the University’s Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program
(https://publichealth.utk.edu/). The University’s accredited MPH Program includes a Veterinary Public
Health Concentration and the successful candidate will serve as academic advisor for students in the on campus as well as online degree options. This individual will develop partnerships with local, regional
and national public health agencies that might serve as applied practice experience sites for students
and/or research partners for the faculty member. Development and coordination of optional
electives/rotations/public health agency experience opportunities for students would be a future
expectation. Teaching and student advising activities are expected to require an approximate 50%
effort in this position with additional administration in support of the MPH program. An independent
research effort in the area of One Health is expected. Research activity involving the control of
zoonoses and environmental hazards linked to domestic and/or wild animals is desired, and would be in line with the strategic plan of the College’s community outreach in veterinary public health. The
successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in the College’s Comparative and Experimental
Medicine (CEM) Graduate Program through mentorship of MS and PhD students and teaching in CEM
courses. The faculty member may represent the College on public health and zoonotic disease issues at the local, state, national and international levels. Interaction with veterinarians, local and state health
departments, and other constituents will be an integral part of the position and the successful candidate will interface closely with other college and University departments and colleges with a One Health mission.
