DIRECTOR, STUDENT SUCCESS AND ADVISING

California State University, Los Angeles, invites applications for the above Administrator II position.

The Position: The Director of the Student Success and Advising (DSSA) is a highly motivated person with vision, enthusiasm, collegiality, and leadership qualities who has significant responsibility for developing and implementing student success and advisement initiatives that promote engagement, retention, and timely graduation. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Natural and Social Sciences, the incumbent will be responsible for: managing the center's budget and staff; hiring, supervising, and evaluating staff; and for ensuring that advising resources are effectively used to provide comprehensive academic advising and support services for all students in the college. As part of a team of college based (DSSA), the Director works closely with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and the Vice Provost for Enrollment Services and with other DSSA's on campus to plan, coordinate, and implement advising policies, practices, and procedures within the college. The Director will develop and lead college-based advising programs and services to increase student engagement, retention, and increase graduation rates. College-based advising initiatives include: mandatory freshmen advising; grad check advising; orientation advising; academic notice advising; and advising campaigns to identify students needing additional support to achieve educational goals. The Director will analyze data to develop effective plans to improve college retention and graduation and develop reports that include identified metrics in support of college attainment of retention and graduation goals. The Director is responsible for ensuring that faculty and staff advisors receive professional ongoing development and training on e-advising tools, including Navigate LA, Degree Planner, and Schedule Planner; they are also responsible for training faculty and professional advisors. The Director will communicate information about campus-wide advising priorities and initiatives as well as changes to advising policies and practices to the Associate Dean, College Advising Council and to faculty advisors and department chairs in a timely manner. The Director is responsible for implementing assessment and continuous improvement plans to track and improve the effectiveness of the advising center and for providing regular updates to the college and to central administration. The Director will serve on university committees, participate in campus-wide efforts to facilitate retention and graduation; serve as a member of the college leadership team, and the Directors of Student Success and Advising Council. The Director will oversee advising services, grounded in best practices, which support college and university advising efforts to develop consistent experiences for all students.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. Five years of relevant experience in areas of advisement and/or student-success in an institution of higher education; proficiency with Microsoft office and social media; demonstrated leadership in addressing diverse problems; organizational management skills and the ability to supervise and motivate staff to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and administrators; excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and teambuilding skills;; ability to manage, analyze and present data and ability to use data to improve programs; ability to manage multiple priorities and act decisively under stressful situations; ability and interest in working in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic environment. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

California State University, Los Angeles, as part of the CSU system, is a State of California Employer. Desired Qualifications: A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. Three years of management or leadership experience; familiarity with a range of advisement tools and platforms; a record of development and implementation of program assessment strategies; knowledge of CSU policies and procedures and PeopleSoft applications.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $4583 - $14,713/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment: The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
