    Department Summary

    University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

    This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

    Position Summary

    The Advanced Insurance Registration and Billing Clerk position assists in all aspects of student registration for the Billing Services Department at UHS; assists students in the processing of Care applications; serves as a patient advocate regarding issues around both UO and private insurance, including OHP, PIP, and WC; acts as a resource regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and insurance options for students; and provides in-person contact for students inquiring about UHS charges, billing questions, insurance verification, and community resources.

    This position includes providing direct services to students, parents, insurance carriers, and physician offices on the various insurance plans, as well as monitoring and adapting program changes as needed. The Advanced Insurance Registration and Billing Clerk position will provide backup coverage for other Billing Services positions.

    The Advanced Insurance Registration and Billing Clerk position will assist with insurance billing, gather patient demographic information, and assist with insurance pre-authorizations as needed.

    This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employees must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; AND
  • Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years' experience in extensive insurance registration, verification of benefits, and verification of Coordination of Benefits (COB).
  • One year experience with posting insurance payments.
  • Experience with secondary and tertiary insurance billing.
  • Experience in Oregon ContraceptiveCare (CCare) enrollment and billing.
  • Experience working with each of the following systems: electronic health records; practice management systems; and insurance company portals.
  • Experience working in a student health environment.
  • Knowledge of Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and Coordinated Care Organizations (CCO) requirements pertaining to referrals and prior authorizations.
