Job Duties:
The Institutional Research Analyst reports to the Assistant Provost for Planning, Budget, and Assessment. This position will be responsible for the extraction of data from multiple sources, analysis of data, and creation of data visualizations to fulfill the data needs of internal and external university stakeholders. The Institutional Research Analyst will work collaboratively with staff members in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Reporting to develop ad hoc, regular, and scheduled reports utilizing data from the student information system (SIS) and data warehouse (DW).
  • Assist the Assistant Provost and Assistant Director to analyze assessment data, report results, and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Create data dashboards and visualizations to meet the needs of campus stakeholders.
  • Discern the data needs of the university's academic and non-academic functional areas.
  • Follow and establish data query and report writing processes to improve efficiency and accuracy data.
  • Locate, integrate, and prepare complex and large amounts of data from multiple sources.
  • Communicate data summaries, trends, and patterns to campus stakeholders, orally and in writing.
  • Upon request of the Assistant Provost or President's Cabinet, develop forecasts/models for student enrollment, retention, attrition, and other critical topics.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Actively work towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers and internal faculty and staff.
  • Maintain “open door” to internal and external customers.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to work practices and offer viable solutions for implementation.
  • Proactively engage in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.
  • Routinely practice self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.





Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a quantitative or social science discipline.
  • Three years of professional experience in data analysis.
  • Ability to query data using SQL.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis using SPSS, SAS, R, or a similar application.
  • Ability to create data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar applications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.



OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS PREFERRED:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a quantitative field of such as Business Administration, Business Analytics, Data Science, Educational Measurement, Math, Statistics or a related discipline.
  • At least one year of professional experience in data analysis in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with TOAD Data Point, OBIEE, Cognos, or similar reporting tools.
  • Experience creating data dashboards and data visualizations for decision makers in a higher education setting.
  • Experience querying complex data from Banner or a similar SIS.

Salary Band: P530
