Job Description
The Office of Animal Resources is pleased to announce the opening of a Senior Animal Technician within our veterinary service.
The primary purpose of this position is to expand the research support services provided by the Office of Animal Resources (OAR). The number of labs on campus utilizing OAR for Principal Investigator (PI) support is growing, and this position allows for more consistent technical service availability across campus. This position helps to develop and implement a colony management service provided by OAR to labs. Finally, this position provides support for the veterinary care of research animals.
Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
PI technical support (rodents)-anesthesia, blood collection, gavage, injections, minor surgical procedures.
PI technical support (large animals)-anesthesia, blood collection, injections.
Colony Management services (rodents)-setting up breeders, performing weanings, collecting samples for genotyping, frequent communication with the colony management supervisor regarding individual colony status.
Veterinary care support (rodents)-assisting with rodent health issues (documenting checks and information on rodent medical records), performing nail and teeth trims, administering medications and fluids, euthanasia, necropsy.
Office clerical work-maintaining health records (organizing and filing records), maintaining campus anesthesia records (scanning and filing records).
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Salary
Salary Range: $14.09 - $24.59/hour
GGS Grade: 6
University Title: SENIOR ANIMAL TECHNICIAN

Shift
Hours will generally be 8 am-5pm Monday-Friday, though certain projects may necessitate work outside of those hours or on weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the field of laboratory animal medicine or a research lab. AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT, LATG, CMAR) is preferred. Graduation from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program is preferred.
