About the Opportunity:

Brown University is undergoing a tremendous growth in the arts, with newly appointed leadership for the Brown Arts Institute , and the state of the art, one of a kind Lindemann Performing Arts Center scheduled to open in Fall 2023. Brown seeks to fulfill its ambitious vision for the arts as an integral presence throughout a liberal arts education. Responsibilities:

The Manager of Audiences Services for the Brown Arts Institute is responsible for front of house operations for BAI venues, including box office, ticketing systems, front for house, and accessibility issues. The Manager of Audience Services will engage with the full scope of BAI offerings in order to better understand and promote the BAI’s mission, messaging, and audience goals while providing a welcoming and positive audience experience. This position will play a key role in developing and ensuring strategies and protocols to create and nurture an inclusive and accessible experience for visitors. The Manager will regularly collaborate across departments to develop ticketing best practices, analyze box office trends, and share useful customer feedback to ensure mission alignment, audience-building efforts and seamless event execution.

Brown University is undergoing a tremendous growth in the arts, with new leadership, new academic and artistic programs, and a state of the art, one of a kind Lindemann Performing Arts Center scheduled to open in Fall 2023. An experienced, creative, and collaborative Manager for Audience Services will play a pivotal role in the future success of the Brown Arts Institute as we work to build audiences, execute effective ticketing strategies, and create accessible programming. The Manager must be a self-starter who will enjoy collegial, collaborative relationships with the BAI Leadership Team, as well as its subordinate division leads. Open lines of communication are of the utmost importance, as the BAI programs are diverse, vast, complex, and often politically sensitive.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of box office management
  • Experience in an academic or non-profit arts setting preferred
Job Competencies
  • Experience with enterprise ticketing systems.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusion protocols, especially in performing and visual arts fields.
  • Proven organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
  • Impeccable customer-relations skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations when warranted.
  • Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve, ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • The ability to independently develop and implement short and long term goals.
  • Ability to work independently, but also as a strong team member.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Google platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
