Overview

Princeton University’s Department of Molecular Biology seeks applicants for a research specialist II position to join a laboratory whose focus of work is DNA polymorphisms and human behavior. The successful candidate will work with the P.I. and other laboratory staff to 1) genotype DNA samples using PCR, real-time PCR, perform gel electrophoresis and related techniques; 2) telomere length measurement; 3) Process incoming DNA samples using qauantitative PCR; 4) assist in general laboratory work. Specific duties include: performing assays; ordering supplies and routine laboratory assignments under the supervision of the P.I. This position may participate in the selection of procedures and techniques to be used to address new problems. This position will be given projects which will require the application of acquired knowledge and skills for solution.

Responsibilities

• Conducts experiments and/or assays following standard or detailed protocol; identifies and documents variations that may affect the validity of the experiment.
• Data collection and analysis. Performs quality control, monitors data for accuracy, and discusses results within agreed upon timelines with supervisor.
*Quantitative PCR, preparation of samples for RNA-seq and DNA sequencing, genotyping, and DNA methylation analysis.

• Train junior members of a team to perform experiments and/or assays following a detailed protocol.
*Instructing undergraduate students on standard laboratory assays.
*Ordering and laboratory maintenance
*Maintaining laboratory maintainance records.



Qualifications

•Highly motivated, dedicated, tenacious, problem solving attitude; demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex experiments; outstanding precision, accuracy, meticulousness and organization; excellent communication skills (oral, written and pictorial); outstanding time management skills.
•Bachelor's degree in Biology or a closely related field
• Minimum 4 years' molecular biology laboratory experience
• Advanced research skills
• In-depth understanding and knowledge of techniques, instrumentation and underlying scientific principles
• Experience in managing projects
• Ability to perform basic quantitative analysis of data sets using software programs
* Knowledge of DNA processing
*DNA genotyping
*Measurement of DNA methylation
*Multi-channel pipetting
*Experience with quantitative PCR and high-throughput technologies
