Job Summary
Collaborative Pianist needed to provide accompaniment for choral ensembles, choral conducting courses and one-on-one coaching for instrumental soloists or provide coaching/accompanying for voice and Opera Area.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accompaniment for choral ensemble, choral conducting courses and one-on-one coaching for instrumental soloists or provide coaching/accompanying for voice and Opera Area.
- Comfort in all styles of classical art music and the fluency to
play difficult contemporary scores as well as
the ability to read 4-part open score accurately and musically.
- Comprehensive knowledge of classical vocal repertoire including
opera, oratorio, and art song or knowledge of instrumental
repertoire.
- Knowledge of opera literature.
- Knowledge of a wide range of choral and/or opera
literature.
- Knowledge of a wide range of vocal and/or instrumental solo
literature.
- Knowledge of vocal/opera coaching techniques and/or rehearsal
techniques.
- Knowledge of foreign languages in which vocal literature is
sung.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Special training or coursework that would facilitate composing and improvising music and/or coaching and accompanying, and experience which has led to a thorough familiarity with accompanying choral groups and soloists (instrumental and vocal), or interpretive dances required.
Earned Master's or Doctoral Degree in Collaborative Piano Performance, Piano Performance, or closely related field preferred.
Demonstrated successful experience as a collaborative pianist and vocal coach in a university and/or professional setting preferred.
Mastery of Italian, German, French, and English language lyric diction preferred.
Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: $1,461 - $2,088 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $1,461 - $2,559 per month.

Time Base
Part-time, 0.5 FTE position.
Duration of Appointment
This is a temporary position for 3 years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
