Course: NRS 419 | Advanced Medical Surgical Practicum
Time/Day(s): 6:30 am - 3:30 pm, Monday or Thursday, 7:30am - 1:20 pm, Tuesday or Friday, on-campus
Monday clinical 6:30-3:30 & Tuesday Lab 7:30-1:20
Thursday clinical 6:30-3:30 & Friday Lab 7:30-1:20
This course continues and expands, in practice, the concepts of patient care introduced in the medical surgical nursing theory courses. The practicum and laboratory experiences focus on implementing the nursing process and skills with ill individuals from diverse populations and developmental levels in a variety of medical/surgical in-patient settings. Course: NRS 234 | Foundational of Nursing Practicum
Time/Day(s): 6:30 am - 12:30 pm, T/R, on-campus
This course focuses on the application and integration of the nursing process to promote physical wellness. Simulated and actual client-care experiences provide an opportunity for student development and practice in the roles of professional nursing that assist the individual to regain or maintain an optimal health state. Therapeutic interventions related to fundamental needs across the life span are addressed and a basic skill level is expected as an outcome of the course. Placement in Long term care.
The Department: The Carroll University Nursing Program prepares students, in diverse settings, for professional nursing practice and other global pursuits.
The College: The College of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs through seven departments; Public Health, Athletic Training, Physician Assistant Studies, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, and Department of Movement Sciences. The mission of the College of Health Science is to educate students to be innovative professionals who collaborate to serve the health needs of their communities. The College of Health Sciences currently accounts for ~60% of University enrollment. A dynamic and growing entity, College wide foci include interprofessional education and practice, the integrated approach to health, innovative learning and healthcare technologies, community partnerships and service to medically underserved populations. To support these initiatives the University has recently renovated a medical arts building to house and support its service learning and Community Health Service programs and partnered with the Waukesha Free Clinic at Carroll University. The College supports the interdisciplinary nature of health science education and has received federal and private foundation grant awards to support these, as well as program specific initiatives.
