Summary
The Liberal Arts Department at UHSP in St. Louis is seeking a part-time music instructor for the 2023/24 academic year to lead and direct Concert Band and Royale Chorale, which are composed of students, staff, and faculty.The Concert Band and Royale Chorale perform two public concerts per year, customarily at the end of the fall and spring semesters. There are weekly rehearsals, customarily Monday and Tuesday evenings. There is also an opportunity to offer voice and instrument lessons on an individual basis. Our music program has a specially designed Music Room for rehearsals and instruction featuring a Steinway Concert piano.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education.

You will have the opportunity to:
  • Conduct and lead the Concert Band and Royale Chorale and develop student talent. You will be able to plan the concerts, select the music to be performed, and help manage the performance budget in consultation with the Liberal Arts Department Chair. You will be able to offer individual voice and instrument lessons to students.
  • Communicate regularly with full-time faculty in the Liberal Arts faculty at UHSP, especially the Liberal Arts Department Chair.
  • Follow UHSP teaching and faculty guidelines for adjunct faculty.


  • Qualifications
    To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A Masters degree in music is preferred, but experienced candidates with a bachelors degree in music will be considered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching music at the undergraduate level preferred.
  • Willingness to incorporate diversity, cultural-competency and social justice into teaching.
