The innovative research and instructional building on the Health Science campus at UMKC places the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SoNHS) at the center of Life and Health Sciences education and research, alongside the schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Medicine. Three teaching hospitals, the Kansas City Health Department, and several clinics are adjacent to the campus. We are linked with Life and Health Sciences research on the UMKC Volker Campus through the School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Schools of Biological and Chemical Sciences as well as the School of Science and Engineering. Research expertise at the SoNHS spans the continuum from bench science to translational research and beyond. UMKC participates in the Regional Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at the University of Kansas and in an interuniversity research collaborative in the Kansas City region. The SoNHS engages over 1,400 students and offers pre-licensure BSN, RN to BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs.

Job Description

The School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Missouri – Kansas City seeks applications for a 12-month tenure, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professoror9-month non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor faculty member to teach in our Bachelor of Health Sciences program to begin September 1, 2023. The faculty is expected to teach undergraduate classes, support our commitment to respect, integrity, excellence, innovation and health via mentorship and teaching, and engage in service responsibilities, such as participating on committees at the School and University levels.

The candidate selected for a 12-month tenured/tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position will be expected to:
  • Maintain an active, productive program of scholarship and externally funded research and integrate research within the curriculum;
  • Mentor junior faculty to obtain extramural funding;
  • Teach in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program;
  • Provide guidance in the application of technology to Health Sciences by integrating current research findings and expertise into teaching and practice;
  • Act as faculty advisor for all students in the BHS by providing academic advice and assistance on students’ plans of studies and progression;
  • Lead in curriculum development, creation of syllabi, and updates of the program curriculum based upon accreditation guidelines, and effectively evaluate students’ learning outcomes;
  • Provide service appropriate to the position; and
  • Advance the goals of the School of Nursing and Health Studies and the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Strategic Plan.
The candidate selected for a 9-month ranked, non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor position will be expected to:
  • Teach in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program;
  • Provide leadership in development and instruction of didactic and internship courses/ experiences in the Health Sciences undergraduate programs;
  • Lead in curriculum development, creation of syllabi, and updates of program curriculum based upon accreditation guidelines and effectively evaluate students’ learning outcomes;
  • Provide guidance in the application of technology to Health Sciences by integrating current research findings and expertise into teaching and practice;
  • Act as a faculty advisor for students in the BHS program by providing academic advice and assistance on students’ plans of studies and uncomplicated progression;
  • Provide service appropriate to the position; and
  • Advance the goals of the School of Nursing and Health Studies and the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Strategic Plan.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications forTenure track/Tenured Assistant/Associate Professor:
  • An earned doctorate in Health Sciences or a related field;
  • A record of scholarship and funded research or demonstrated ability to procure funding conducive to tenure eligibility;
  • Experience and/or willingness to mentor faculty and doctoral students; and
  • Expertise or demonstrated in clinical outcomes research.
Minimum Qualifications forRanked Non-Tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor:
  • Master’s degree Health Sciences or a related field;
  • Experience in teaching in a health science related program;
  • A record of quality teaching and service appropriate to the rank;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Full Time/Part Time

Full-time, benefit-eligible, 9-month, and non-tenure track or Full-time, benefit-eligible, 12-month tenure track/tenure to begin Fall Semester 2023.

Commensurate with length of contract term, position rank, credentials, and experience.
