MDIA 303: Histories of Media Technologies

Course Description
A critical and historical examination of 19th, 20th, and 21st century analog and digital media/communication technologies. Introduces the role of media technology in human creative activity and examines the contexts in which new technologies come into use. Examines economic and political issues that have (and do) influence the selection of some technologies and standards over others.
Minimum qualifications:
- ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field
- Experience with and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard
- Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
- Doctoral Degree in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field
- Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs
- Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area
- Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530-$7,794 per full-time month
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,530 - $11,994 per full-time month
