Position Purpose
Reporting to the Chief of Staff ( COS ), the Associate Director of Human Resources for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth will provide local oversight and direct support for all aspects of Geisel’s human resources efforts for staff employees of the Medical School. Broad areas of responsibility include employee relations and engagement, staff recruiting/hiring plans and execution, employee performance management and annual review processes, employee recognition and promotions, assessment of proposed market and equity adjustments, providing support for department/staff reorganizations and HR data management. All operational responsibilities shall be performed in accordance with the applicable human resource policies and procedures of Dartmouth College.

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
· 5 or more years of human resources management experience (e.g., performing at a human resources generalist level or above)
· Contemporary knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and laws
· Ability to interact with others at all levels of the organization using tact and diplomacy
· Initiative, sound judgment and ability to set priorities
· Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness
· Demonstrated ability managing highly confidential and sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications
· HR certification preferred ( SHRM -CP, SHRM - SCP, PHR or SPHR )
· Familiarity with Dartmouth College or other higher education or academic medical center human resources policies and practices.

Key Accountabilities
Description
General Human Resources
· Provides guidance and interpretation of human resource policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Dartmouth, federal and state employment laws for all staff employees of the medical school.
· Works closely with the Chief of Staff and other members of the Geisel Dean’s Office to ensure a consistent and shared understanding and interpretation of human resources policies across the office and as applicable to matters under consideration/discussion.
· Manages the annual staff performance review process, overseeing the process for engagement and compliance, and providing guidance and coaching to supervisors and staff.
· Provides oversight and direction for all Dartmouth Online Recruitment and Reporting ( DORR ) and Payroll Authorization Smart Form ( PASF ) staff actions and oversees the Dean’s Office staff in the accurate and timely data entry for any actions, as appropriate.
· Serves as primary liaison between Geisel and Dartmouth Office of Human Resources.
· Works in collaboration with the Dartmouth Office of Visa and Immigration Services ( OVIS ) and the hiring departments at Geisel for staff immigration matters, including new non-domestic staff hires, visa-extension requests, etc.
· Develops, prepares, generates and analyzes ongoing and ad-hoc special reports pertaining to personnel information and data in support of Geisel Human Resource operations.
· Alongside the Chief of Staff, serves as a champion for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts for staff employees and related employee programs across Geisel, and Dartmouth, more broadly.

Recruitment and Onboarding
· Provides oversight and counsel to hiring managers/departments throughout the entire recruitment cycle for all exempt and non-exempt staff.
· Leads and sets agenda for the weekly staffing (staff action review) meeting within the Dean’s Office, and provides oversight and follow up with requesting departments/hiring managers as needed.
· Partners with HR to provide guidance on recruiting experiences and best practices, and participates on staff and leadership search committees, as requested.
· In partnership with the Chief of Staff, leads efforts across Geisel to provide a robust and consistent on-boarding (and off-boarding) processes for staff and key leadership hires.

Employee and Labor Relations
· Using Dartmouth College practices as a framework, guides the Geisel community on the fair, consistent, and respectful treatment of all members of all employees. Provides coaching and support to managers and employees in support of performance management and performance improvement activities.
· Engages with the Chief of Staff, Executive Dean for Administration and Finance and Dartmouth’s Human Resource Consultants on legal and sensitive HR matters.
· In consultation with Dartmouth’s HR Consultants, provides coaching and support to managers as needed to develop and implement performance improvement plans and other disciplinary action.
· Serves as sounding board and consultant to managers, helping them develop into stronger leaders and supervisors.

· Fosters respectful communication and collaboration within a diverse community.
· Partners with Chief of Staff in development of professional development training opportunities for staff.
