Position Title
Research Associate
The Opportunity
The Research Associate will perform laboratory experiments concerning the topical areas of ID4, namely in solid state chemistry. This position will also mentor undergraduate and graduate students, write research grants in the fields of solid state chemistry and condensed matter physics, maintain laboratory equipment and a safe working environment, and publish scientific results. Specific knowledge required for this job include:
- Low and high temperature (2 – 800C) thermoelectric property measurements (Hall, Seebeck, resistivity, thermal conductivity)
- Magnetism and heat capacity measurements to low temperature
- Transport instrument design and fabrication
- Analysis of crystallographic disorder
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- PhD in Physics + 1 (minimum) year of Post-Doctoral Fellow experience
- Experience with diffraction analysis of powders
- Experience with alkali metal and alkali earth metals synthesis of Zintl compounds and intermetallic
- Experience analyzing transport data
- Mentoring experience at the undergraduate and graduate level
- Experience analyzing synchrotron scattering measurements
- Experience collaborating with computational collaborators
- Glove box and torch experience

Pay Range
$68,000.00
Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
