The Opportunity

We are seeking a technician who will assist with design and be responsible for fabrication and maintenance of fully automated, innovative water and wastewater treatment research equipment ranging from bench scale to pilot scale in size, and include physical, biological, and chemical processes installed on campus and off campus. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the daily operation of a large, off-campus research facility in Denver, which houses pilot and demonstration scale water treatment research systems.

This role is part of Colorado School of Mines’ WE2ST Water Technology Hub, helping our students, faculty, and industry partners with their research and development of innovative water treatment technologies. The technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair in support of several research facilities and water/wastewater treatment equipment. In this role, the technician will work with a variety of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and controls. Superior logical-thinking and troubleshooting skills are critical. This position is critical to the safe and efficient operation of the research hub.

Responsibilities
  • Fabrication, maintenance, and repair of research equipment
  • Management and maintenance of 3 research facilities
  • Ordering of supplies and equipment and occasionally travel to purchase or deliver supplies and equipment
  • Installation of new or repaired equipment
  • Occasionally assist students and faculty with ongoing research and deployment of equipment in the lab and in the field
  • Work with contractors and industry partners
  • Coordinate maintenance of center vehicle

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Age: 18 years or older
  • Experience: Four to five years of experience as a technician, technician apprentice, or relevant work experience.
  • Inspect and maintain machinery: Knowledge of checking machine equipment for proper performance and detect faults and malfunctions. Diagnose malfunctions using testing equipment to determine the required repair. Familiarity with performing regular maintenance, possibly including corrections and alterations, on a machine or machine tool to ensure it remains in a proper productive state.
  • Write simple technical reports: Experience with compose technical customer reports understandable for people without technical background.
  • Comprehension: Ability to read, write, comprehend, follow verbal and written instructions, and possess basic mathematical skills. Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel; knowledge of SolidWorks is a plus)
Physical Requirements for production positions regularly include:
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending/stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms, lifting, climbing and other active movements
  • Performing duties while wearing personal protective equipment
  • Working across temperature zones that may include cold and/or hot environments for extended periods and may include work in environments where dust and wastewater is present
  • Shift schedules that include days, nights, and weekends, some holidays and periodic overtime

Pay Range

$70,000 - $80,000 annually

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
